The Masters to kick off the 2012 Season

This Sunday, 18th March, will see the long awaited start to the 2012 Season for the NSW Speedway Kart Club.

A horror start to the year weather-wise saw the Club lose its opening practice day, then Rounds 1 and 2 of the Championship, due to the continual down pours of rain in Sydney.

However, after a week of good weather it looks like Round 3

“The Masters” will kick-start the Season.

Over 70 very eager speedway karters are ready to go and should provide some spectacular speedway action across 7 different classes.

Prior to this, the NSW Speedway Kart Club will be promoting the sport, the Club and Sunday’s race meeting at Sydney Speedway on Saturday night (17 March) with a display of some of the karts that will be in action Sunday.

At the display race fans will get the chance to win a drive in one of the competition race karts at the NSWSKC race meetings. There will be DVD presentations of our sport, balloons for the children and all the information required to help people get started in speedway karting.

The Masters race meeting is being held at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh, with racing commencing at 10am.

Entry to the venue is $5 per adult to see 24 events and afterwards spectators are encouraged to stay and join in the celebrations of the day’s results. The Club has a full canteen to assist you with all the food and drinks you require as you spend a lazy Sunday on the grass hill watching fantastic speedway action.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2012.

NSWSKC Update

We are experiencing our worst start to a season in many years. The committee has been able to negotiate this Sunday 11th as an extra date from the Nepean board. Given the short notice the committee last night decided that we will be holding a practice day which will also give us the opportunity for those who still need to do their drive test to complete their license testing. The day will be a standard practice day starting on track at 10am. However, once again please be reminded that if you haven't renewed your membership by tomorrow's upload you will not be able to get on track.

Our next scheduled race meeting is the 18th with the Rookies to volunteer and since my last email we only have 1 rookie doing their volunteer day.
Please notify me ASAP who will be your child’s representative for their duties.

Tomorrow nights club meeting will have a couple of points to be discussed, with some needing to be decided by the members, these include:

Further planning with regards to this season and changes to the calendar

Points score system for 2013

Interpretation of points scores

Presentation night venue

It will be held at the Prospect Hotel starting at 7:30pm.

The club along with the CCCSKC will be holding a display at TSS on the 17th, which is the second night of the Scott Darley race meeting.
There should be a good crowd for this meeting and plenty of opportunity for the club's to promote the sport and our race meeting the following day.
If anyone is interested in having his or her kart on display again please contact me.

If anyone has any issue please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers
Wayne

Friday 2nd March Race Update

I would like to say good morning however, there is not much good about it. Unfortunately we have to cancel this weekend’s event. The venue has received 48mm in the last 24hrs and the forecast is rain today and tomorrow with no chance for it to dry out.

This is the worst start to a season in 10 years. The committee will be meeting on Monday night to discuss the situation. I will update you on Tuesday morning in regards to any decision we come up with and any ideas/issues that may be put to next Wednesday night’s members club meeting.

Please remember our club meeting next Wednesday night at the Prospect Hotel, Great Western Highway, Prospect, at 7:30pm.

Once again sorry about this weekend however it is completely out of our hands.

Our next attempt at a racing will be the 18th March, with the Rookies to volunteer. If people could please let me know who your child’s representative will be.

Cheers
Wayne

Round 2 Update

I thought I would give you all an update as to the status of this weekend.

Work at Nepean has been done over the last (dry) week. Things look ok and we now are just waiting to see what this weather is going to do. The prediction is for about 100mm in the district over the next 48 hours, if this happens then the meeting will get washed out. Friday morning should tell us where we stand in relation to the weekend.

A couple of things to remember:

Cadet volunteers: This weekend's event is scheduled for the cadets (midgets) to do their volunteers day. At this point I have only heard from 2 people who will be doing their day. Please let me know your nominated person for your child so we can plan.

Also Rookie parents/guardians could you please let us know the nominated person for your child’s volunteer day on the 18th, RD3.

Club BBQ: Just a reminder that a person will be allocated from the volunteer list to do the BBQ each meeting.

Club Memberships: I know you have all read this a number of times however I need to put it out there again because if you haven't organised your membership before tomorrow you will not be updated on the AKA electronic site and will not be allowed to race on Sunday. WE CANNOT DO MEMBERSHIPS ON SUNDAY.

Club Meeting: Next Wednesday the 7th at 7:30pm and will be held at the Prospect Hotel on the Great Western Highway Prospect.

Club Displays: We have been invited to hold a display this Saturday at Sydney Speedway and also as part of a joint display with the CCSKC on the 17th. If you would like to help out or have your kart on display please let me know.

CCSKC Twilight Meeting: For those interested and don’t know the meeting scheduled for the 17th at Gosford, it has now been pushed back until the 24th.

If anyone has any issues please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers
Wayne

TSS promotion, Ontrack Raffle, Update‏

I have a couple of updates for you:

Club memberships: If you have not done your club membership please get it organised with Kim Bright. Already this week we have had people not able to race at Gosford due to their membership not being updated. The issue is that you must be a member of an AKA club to have your license valid. All our memberships run out on the 31st of Dec each year. The AKA downloads the electronic system on a Thursday, if you are not up to date at that time you will miss out. NO LONGER CAN THEY BE DONE THE MORNING OF A RACE MEETING. We currently have form last year about 15 people who have not rejoined the club, this may be because you are not racing however for those that are, please get things together. Please organise before next Wednesday or you will not be allowed to race next weekend.

On Track raffle: Kaye and Les Green have put together a raffle to help the club raise some funds. Click here for the details. This is a great deal put together by them so bring a couple of extra dollars each meeting to be in the draw.

Sydney Speedway Promotion: The AKA will be sending out details of a deal put together by TSS and the AKA for its members about the second night of the Scott Darley meeting. As apart of this meeting they have invited us to put a display together to promote our club and the sport, which we will do as a co-display with the CCSKC. If you are able to or wish to have your kart on display that night please contact me and let me know so I can get it organised. It should be a big night, so the club will be doing balloons for the children and have the DVD's on display. Along with that we will be raffling off a " Have A Go" on the night to again try and raise some money for the club. The down side is that it is on the night of the CCSKC Twilight show but we have to go with the TSS offer.

Next weekend: Don’t forget it is the Cadet (midgets) class do volunteer duties, please contact myself and let me know of your intent to volunteer for your child on the day or let me know who will be you representative.

Club meeting: Our first club meeting for the year is on the 7th March at the Prospect Hotel on the Great Western Highway commencing at 7:30.

As always if anyone has any issues or needs clarifications please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Wayne

Membership Renewal

In the past we have been able to accept memberships on race mornings and override the AKA electronic system. However, the AKA has now taken this option off the clubs and memberships must be done prior to the electronic update the race secretary does before each race meeting.

If your membership has not been updated the system will have you as not eligible to race and the club is hand tied and not able to do anything.

SO IF YOU HAVE NOT RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP YET OR KNOW SOMEONE THAT MAY HAVE NOT PLEASE DO SO!

Please contact with Kim Bright, or download the forms and mail, scan, and fax them to us. Or come to PKW Saturday morning and see me.

With last week not going ahead you all have another 2 weeks to make sure things can be done, please do not turn up on the 4th and ask us to help you out as there is nothing we can do.

I will be going through the membership forms we have so far and checking against last years and try to make contact, but do not rely on this as I may miss someone.

Please remember this is your responsibility not the clubs.

If you have any questions please contact me.

Cheers

Round 1 2012 Championship Update‏

It is with great regret that I am writing to you today with regards to our opening meeting of the 2012 championship scheduled for this weekend.

Recent weather and the forecast of more bad weather this weekend, has forced the Nepean board and our committee to cancel this weekends event.

Major track and groundwork that has taken place over the summer at Nepean to improve the long-term management of the venue has been halted. Due to the
extreme weather patterns experienced over the last month, rendering the work incomplete at this stage.

Both parties are doing everything possible to get the venue serviceable as quickly as possible to allow not only our club but also give the other clubs that use the venue the opportunity to get their seasons under way.

Therefore for this weekend our committee has offered the Nepean board help in getting things ready by way of help via a working bee.
The NSWSKC will be looking after the grounds (lawns etc.) whilst the Nepean crew continues with the track.

If anyone has a ride on lawn mower or a whipper snipper or a normal lawn mower and a few hours to spare on Sunday please feel free to come out after 10am and lend a hand. The club will put on a BBQ lunch. Please let me know if you can assist so we can cater for lunch.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the people that pitched in last weekend and helped out with some clean up work after the Thursday night flood.

Kim Bright will also be out at Nepean on Sunday for further registrations for club membership.

We have been informed that NO MEMBERSHIPS CAN BE DONE IN THE MORNING OF THE RACE MEETING.

We will now have 2 weeks for you to have your membership up to date before our 4th March meeting so please organise to have it done. They can also be done at PKW on a Saturday Morning.

Our next meeting will be the 4th March with Cadets (midgets) to volunteer. Could you please notify the club of your intent to do the volunteer day for your child.

Round 1 will move to the rain date of 22nd April.

I don’t have everyone’s email addresses so if you could help spread the word, that would be a great help.

Don’t forget the CCSKC has their first round of 2012 on next Sunday, I hope to see you there.

If anyone has any questions please contact me for clarification.

* The club is also looking for a small chest freezer, if anyone has one they are looking to get rid of please let me know.

Regards
Wayne

NSWSKC Update

Good morning,

Following last weeks wash out we are going to attempt to hold practice again this Sunday 12th.

For those who were doing OLT licence testing we will be doing them Sunday if in the event we get washed out again we will most likely be holding the
theory testing at PKW the following Tuesday but will confirm at a later date. Also those who were booked in for Have A Goes, this will still go ahead as well.
All people participating in these actives need to be at the circuit by 8:30am to register. IF you know of anyone planning on comming please recomfrim with us.

For club members, please be reminded that club rego and membership can be paid either at PKW Saturday or at Nepean on Sunday please organise this prior to the first race meeting. Remember, you will not be permitted on track until your membership is paid.

For Round 1, the following week (19th) it will be clubman heavy doing their volunteer duties. Please let us know if you are planning on running clubman heavy and that you will be present to do your volunteer day. Again if you know of someone who is planning on doing this please confirm with us also.

With Tony and Ann Johnson retiring from the canteen we have had a number of people step up to help Rachael during the day however, no one is avaiable to do the BBQ. Therefore it will be required to be a volunteer position and will be allocated from the list of volunteers on the day. It can be rotated during the day however we will need to allocate someone each meeting to it. We know this wont be popular however it needs to be done.

Our committee met with the committee of the CCSKC last Wednesday and the meeting was a very successful one with both committees committed to
moving in the same direction this year and beyond. A number of strategies were mapped out and i am sure this season will be a great one for everyone involved in the sport.

If anyone has any further question do not hesitate to contact me.

Hopefully we will get to see you all Sunday.

Cheers
Wayne

The past and future come together

Over 200 members and guests helped celebrate the triumphs and success of the 2011 season for the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club at their 21st annual Presentation dinner on Sunday the 11th December.

The night was a fitting end to what has been a disrupted season due to weather but after 7 championship rounds the points were tallied and the champions were crowned.

It was only the second time in the clubs history that a midget class driver had earn top honors in the club taking out the Club Championship.

A full list of award winners is listed below however the highlight of the night was the standing ovation 11 yr old Kaidon Brown received as he accepted his Championship trophy from guest of honor for the night, speedway icon and legend Steve Brazier.

Before handing over the award Steve spoke about how important the club and the sport of speedway karting is to the young future of the sport as a valuable learning tool for drivers to learn race craft before stepping into mainstream speedway.

Another milestone was reached on the night as fellow midget class driver Jake Donaldson made it a 1,2 for the class as he received his second place trophy.

It is the first time in the club history that the midget class has taken the top two spots. Finishing in third was clubman heavy driver Tim Baker.

One of the most emotional awards presented on the night is the one that holds high esteem in the club, that being Life Membership. This year the honor was given to a member who has been part of the club since its founding years. He is always available to the club and its members whenever required, that member was Rod Bright.

In his closing address to the audience club president Wayne Baines announced an exciting new plan that will see for the first time the CCSKC and the NSWSKC run a joint inter club challenge where drivers will compete at both venues for a separate points score with the season thru out 2012.

It is the next step in the push forward of making speedway karting even stronger as a sport.

Once the awards were handed out the members and their families and guest all joined to relax and wind down the season with dancing and partying into the night.

Attached is a copy of the Inter Club Challenge both Victor and I have been working on.

Take time to have a read, it wont be for everyone we know that but for those interested it gives something else to your season.

The idea is simple to try and get the vast majority back racing together and enjoying our sport racing different venues against different people.

Please remember it is a work in progress.

It starts at our Round 1.

I will be doing a press release about Sunday night this weekend I am snowed under at work and haven’t had time yet.

To those that came on Sunday night thank you for capping off the season in style, the committee hope you enjoyed the night and are looking forward already to 2012

Cheers
Wayne

2011 AGM Results

You will notice we have some new faces on the committee and I would like to thank Sean Mayo and Michael Jordan for having a go.
These two young men have been in our cadet programme for 2 years now and have learnt and grown to the level where they are ready to give it a go.
They in my opinion are the future of our club and I look forward to working with them and watching them grow into the positions.
What we need to do now is find some new people who want to come on in a cadet role and learn as Sean and Michael have if any one is interested please let me know.

You will also notice Scott Donaldson is going to take on sponsorship and marketing taking over from Mark Richards who will be helping him with contacts.

Shane Orre and Nicole Jaques have come on board to assist Kim Bright in learning the race secretary role, this will give the club great depth in this area and into the
future will take a lot of pressure off Kim who ahs been doing a wonderful job often under trying and frustrating conditions.

The rest of the committee will pick up where they have left off.

I would like to thank Tony Johnson and Mark Richards, whilst they will both still be around, for their years of help on committees I have been involved with.

The NSWSKC committee will be working closely with the CCSKC committee to try and get things for speedway karting back to where it used to be and some exciting
news is very close to being unveiled.

I look forward to see most of you on Sunday at presentation where we can all celebrate the end of another great year.

Regards
Wayne

OOH AAH – WHAT A DAY!

Wow, what a fantastic day the 2011 Wescranes Speedway Kart Grand Prix turned out to be last Sunday for the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club.

Not only was the speedway action some of the best racing of the season, International and Australian Cricket Legend Glenn McGrath and his family were there to witness it!

As part of a reward to the Club for the support they have been giving Jake Baines with his Breast Cancer Awareness fund raising this season, Glenn and his son, James, attended the meeting to have a “go” at the karts.

Both Glenn and James were able to get a couple of laps in the karts and were wrapped with them. Glenn signed autographs, had photos taken with everyone and then was good enough to stay and present the trophies at the end of the meeting.

The atmosphere of the whole day was fantastic and everyone enjoyed it.

The action on track was led off by the Clubman Heavy class. Throughout the season, this class has been tight and again there were four different winners for the four races. In Heat 1 Gary Slarke showed the field the way to the chequered flag, second was Tim Baker followed by Adam Hunter. In Heat 2, Australian Champion, Daniel Selmes, won and the minor placings were Tim Baker 2nd and Shannon Bree 3rd. Heat 3 saw points leader Tim Baker take the win with Gary Slarke chasing him home for 2nd and Shannon Bree 3rd. In the feature, a close and hard fought race saw David Cochran lead home Adam Hunter and Daniel Selmes.

Overall points for the day were 1st Tim Baker, 2nd Gary Slarke, and 3rd Daniel Selmes.

Juniors were up next and, at this race meeting; it was the young ladies who shone at the end of the day. All year it has been a battle of the sexes in this class with the biggest contingent of female drivers of any division. In Heat 1 Lindsay Jones started her day off well with a win, Amy Shute ran 2nd and Jake Baines was 3rd. Heat 2 and the boys hit back with Club Champion Nathan Camilleri winning the heat ahead of Jordan Binskin and Daniel Sayre. Lindsay Jones “returned serve” in Heat 3 taking the win from Jordan Binskin and Daniel Sayre.

Come feature time Lindsay was the high points driver and started from the back of the pack. At race end however it was Amy Shute taking a very popular win from Jake Baines in 2nd and Katelyn Hickey 3rd.

Overall points for the day were 1st Lindsay Jones, 2nd Daniel Sayre, and 3rd Jordan Binskin.

Using the Nepean circuit next were the boys from KT Pro and, again, the racing from the Club’s most senior drivers was nothing short of spectacular.

Heat 1 saw Cameron Coghlan leading home John Watton and David Hopping. In Heat 2 Michael Jordan (after a DNF in Heat 1) was first home chased by Wayne Baines and David Hopping. Heat 3 and Cameron Coghlan picked up his second win of the day and had him high points going into the final but an unfortunate DNF denied him his second round victory of the year. Home 2nd in the heat was David Boyd and 3rd Michael Jordan. The feature was a fast paced race and Wayne Baines led home the field over Michael Jordan in 2nd and John Watton 3rd.

Overall points on the day 1st David Hopping, 2nd John Watton, and 3rd David Boyd.

The sister class to KT Pro, the KT Light class was up next and, as was the case for Cameron in KT Pro, the high points man Daniel Gow, going into the feature race, would DNF and cost him the round victory.

In Heat 1 James Melling continued his form and showed the field a clean pair of heels to take victory over Daniel Gow and Kyle Caunt in 3rd. In Heat 2 Daniel Gow would go one better and win the heat from Tim Beattie and Garry Morris. Heat 3 was a repeat with “Gowie“ victorious however he was chased all the way by Tim Beattie and in 3rd place was James Melling. The feature race dealt a cruel blow to Daniel, which allowed Kyle Caunt to drive to victory over 2nd place Garry Morris and 3rd place Tim Beattie.

Overall points on the day 1st Tim Beattie, 2nd James Melling, and 3rd Garry Morris.

The mighty Midgets hit the track next and all year it has been a battle of two - Kaidon Brown and Jake Donaldson. While Kaidon has been superb, Jake has been chipping away and has had a number of second places to Kaidon.

Last round they were tied on top points however, on Sunday, Jake would break through and knock Kaidon off the “top step” for the first time this year.

The racing as always from these young children was again great to watch and the maturity they show is far above their age.

In the opening heat of the day, Jake Donaldson found the chequered flag 1st followed by Kaidon Brown and in 3rd place it was the ever improving Liam Walker. Heat 2 saw the “wee man “ Andrew Sayre take the win, he led home Kaidon Brown and Jake Donaldson. Kaidon Brown took victory in Heat 3 whilst Andrew Sayre hung on to 2nd place from a hard charging Liam Camilleri. The feature race was great to watch and Connor Moreau, who led most of the race, was only just pipped by Jake Donaldson who drove a faultless race from position 12 to win. At the race end it was Jake 1st from Connor in 2nd and Liam Camilleri 3rd.

Overall points on the day 1st Jake Donaldson, 2nd Kaidon Brown, and 3rd Liam Camilleri.

The last class the race was Clubman Light. The points chase in this class is very close and the crowd on hand were all eager to see how it would unfold.

Heat 1 had “Bobby “ Jason Woodward continue his winning way by taking victory over Cameron Ware, who has just returned to racing after a couple of years off, in 2nd and Dan Morris in 3rd. In Heat 2 Dan Morris took the lead early in the race and never looked back, taking the win from Jason Woodward and Sean Mayo. Heat 3 and Dan repeated his Heat 2 performance and smoked the field, leading home Jason Woodward in 2nd and Jono Bright 3rd.

The final race of the day was worth watching as both Jason and Dan cut their way through traffic to get to the front and battle it out. At the drop of the chequered flag, Jason would get the win from Jono Bright and Sean Mayo was able to hold off Dan to grab 3rd.

Overall points on the day 1st Jason Woodward, 2nd Dan Morris, and 3rd Sean Mayo.

The day was a huge success for the Club, both on and off the track, and everyone went home with great anticipation of the Grand Final round to be held on Sunday, 27 November.

The NSWSKC has now planned its Presentation Night, which is always a great event, for Sunday, 11 December at St Marys Leagues Club and visitors are more than welcome. Details can be found on the Club’s website at www.nswskc.com.au

Local Hawkesbury District business, Wescranes, proudly presents the 7th annual “Speedway Kart Grand Prix “ being hosted by the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club this Sunday at the Nepean Motorsport Complex located on Rickards Road, Castlereagh.

The Wescranes organisation has been a corporate partner of the NSWSKC for numerous years and their relationship with the Club has not only continued but in fact grown. Not only are they the sponsor of this weekends event, they also sponsor the KT Pro Class and were the naming sponsor of the 2011 Australian Titles recently in September.

The Club and its members greatly appreciate the support received from the Wescranes organisation, the Hart Family and we are confident that the coming meeting will do them justice.

This meeting is round 5 of the championship season and this weekend will be the second attempt to run the event after it was washed out back in July.

Drivers in the championship only have 2 rounds left in this year’s championship and the points chase in most classes is still very close as the season end draws near.

3 wide clubman light racing will be on again on Sunday

All the stars and their karts will be present and the expectation of over 70 very talented speedway karters tearing up the Nepean Raceway is one that a lot of speedway fans are planning on coming out to watch.

The racing at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh is scheduled to start at 10am.

There is a full canteen facility for all your eating and drinking requirements throughout the day.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2011.

The weather was hot, the racing HOTTER!!

Sunday, 16 October, was a hot spring day and for drivers in the New South Wales Speedway Kart 2011 Championship the racing heated up as they all tried to achieve maximum points with only two Rounds to go.

It was the annual Nepean Nationals meeting (which is Round 7 of the Club championship) and over 70 drivers were in attendance for what turned out to be an exciting day of speedway action.

The first class to use the superbly prepared Nepean circuit was the Clubman Light class and, whilst a little lighter on numbers than normal, the racing was as hard and fast as it has been all year. Jason Woodward had found some form in Round 6 and continued that into this Round. He was able to lead the field home in Heats 1 and 3. Wingless sprintcar driver, Sean Mayo, took the win in Heat 2 whilst speedcar pilot, Jonathon Bright, was successful in the Feature race.

Clubman Light sponsored by Wescranes

Heat 1 – 1st Jason Woodward, 2nd Daniel Morris, 3rd Louie Callega.

Heat 2 – 1st Sean Mayo, 2nd Jonathon Bright, 3rd Matt Pescod.

Heat 3 – 1st Jason Woodward, 2nd Sean Mayo, 3rd Jonathon Bright.

Feature – 1st Jonathon Bright, 2nd Jason Woodward, Alana Onley.

Overall points winners - 1st Jason Woodward, 2nd Jonathon Bright, 3rd Sean Mayo.

Next on track was the mighty Midget class and another big field turned out to have some fun. The racing all day was nothing short of fantastic by these children aged between 7 and 10.

The only incident of the day came in the Feature when kart 21, Brandon Moore, and kart 20, James Forth, got together in turn 1, and, whilst both drivers were at the time winded, they were fine by day’s end. Heat 1 was taken out by Kaidon Brown with Jake Donaldson picking up wins in Heats 2 and 3.

The Feature race saw Ethan Rietdyk lead all 15 laps in a great drive - he was under pressure from the pack chasing but kept his nerve and drove good lines to secure his first feature win.

Midgets sponsored by Coghlan Oval Track Racing Team

Heat 1 – 1st Kaidon Brown, 2nd Liam Walker, 3rd Jake Donaldson.

Heat 2 – 1st Jake Donaldson, 2nd Brandon Moore, 3rd Kaidon Brown.

Heat 3 – 1st Jake Donaldson, 2nd Kaidon Brown, 3rd Liam Walker.

Feature – 1st Ethan Rietdyk, 2nd Connor Moreau, 3rd Liam Camilleri.

Overall points winners – tied on top points 1st on count back Kaidon Brown, 2nd Jake Donaldson, 3rd Liam Walker.

First Time Feature Race Winner Ethan Rietdyk

A 12 kart KT Light field fronted up to compete in the Nationals and they didn’t let the crowd down. Very spirited driving was witnessed as the drivers battled hard to gain the all-important Championship points. Daniel Gow who won Round 6 continued his form into this meeting and was the stand-out of the field throughout the day, winning Heats 1 and 3 and taking out the Feature victory. Daniel’s perfect day was spoiled by Rotax Pro driver, Brent Coghlan. Brent used to race speedway and has been away racing on the Rotax tour but showed everyone on Sunday he hasn’t forgotten how to race a speedway kart winning Heat 2.

KT Light sponsored by Hopping’s Mowers

Heat 1 – 1st Daniel Gow, 2nd Gary Morris, 3rd Brent Coghlan.

Heat 2 – 1st Brent Coghlan, 2nd Daniel Gow, 3rd Nicole Callega.

Heat 3 – 1st Daniel Gow, Nicole Callega, 3rd Brent Coghlan.

Feature – 1st Daniel Gow, 2nd Peter Bourke , 3rd gary Morris.

Overall points winners – 1st Daniel Gow, 2nd Gary Morris, 3rd Brent Coghlan.

The Juniors were eager to get on track and had their chance next. As has been the case all year it was a battle of the sexes with 7 boys versus 5 girls in the field. However, on this day, the boys would have the upper hand with Katelyn Hickey the best of the girls. Such is the strength of the Junior class, four different drivers took race victories on the day, Jake Baines was first winning Heat 1, current Club Champion, Nathan Camilleri, taking Heat 2, rookie driver, Jordan Binskin, won Heat 3 and current State Champion, Daniel Sayre, victorious in the Feature. The feature race saw a spectacular crash involving Jordan Brazier who got loose in turn 1, Amy Shute who did very well to throw the kart sideways to miss Brazier but, with nowhere to go in a big field, Ashleigh Jack collided with Amy and flipped her kart. After some precautionary checks from the medical staff all drivers were thankfully fine.

Junior Class Sponsored by Fire Service Plus

Heat 1 – 1st Jake Baines, 2nd Jordan Binskin, 3rd Ayden Elliott.

Heat 2 – 1st Nathan Camilleri, 2nd Lindsay Jones, 3rd Jordyn Brazier.

Heat 3 – 1st Jordan Binskin, 2nd Nathan Camilleri, 3rd Jake Baines.

Feature – 1st Daneil Sayre, 2nd Jordan Binskin, 3rd Jake Baines.

Overall points winners – 1st Jordan Binskin, 2nd Nathan Camilleri, 3rd Jake Baines.

Junior Class winner Jordan Binskin

The “big” boys of the Club, the Clubman Heavy class, were next to tear the track up and the racing was the closest it has been all year with plenty of position changes in the heats and a great drive by Anthony Selmes from the back of the pack in the feature. Heats 1 and 3 were won by Anthony while Heat 2 was taken out by Gary Slarke. The Feature was won by Tim Baker.

The Clubman Heavy Class is sponsored by Carline Automotive Caringbah

Heat 1 – 1st Anthony Selmes, 2nd Shannon Bree, 3rd Tim Baker.

Heat 2 – 1st Gary Slarke, 2nd Joel Rhind, 3rd David Cochran.

Heat 3 – 1st Anthony Selmes, 2nd Gary Slarke, 3rd Joel Rhind.

Feature – 1st Tim Baker, 2nd David Cochran, 3rd Anthony Selmes.

Overall points winners – 1st Anthony Selmes, 2nd Tim Baker, 3rd David Cochran.

Clubman Heavy Winner Anthony Selmes

The last class to face the starter’s flag on the day was the Rookie class and, as has been the case all year, a very talented 7 kart field was on deck to provide some memorable racing. The race wins were shared between Luke Sayre wining Heat 1 and the Feature and Andrew Beattie winning Heats 2 and 3. The minor placing were shared between the rest of the field with both young lady racers, Taylor Coghlan and Taylor Reitdyk, taking it up to the boys.

The Rookie class is sponsored by Karting World and Sayre Racing

Heat 1 – 1st Luke Sayre, 2nd Andrew Beattie, 3rd Taylor Rietdyk.

Heat 2 – 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre, 3rd Taylor Coghlan.

Heat 3 – 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre, 3rd Taylor Reitdyk.

Feature – 1st Luke Sayre, 2nd Lachlan McDougall, 3rd Andrew Beattie.

Overall points winners – 1st Luke Sayre, 2nd Andrew Beattie, 3rd Lachlan Caunt.

It was a great day’s racing and even though the conditions were a little hot, the drivers put on another impressive display of speedway racing showing that the sport is very healthy at the moment with some very talented up-and- coming racers on the way.

Other club awards on the day were

The Stillshots Art Of Speedway Racing – Katelyn Hickey

Hard close racing will be on display again this Sunday

Now the weather has warmed up this meeting will be run back on the 350mtr track after a long winter racing on the ultra fast 420mtr track. Karters have enjoyed the wide-open spaces of the big track but will now need to reset their driving style to tackle the challenging tight small track. There are only 3 rounds left in the season for drivers to accumulate as many points as they can in an effort to become the 2011 Champion.

Leading the pack going into the glory bound rounds is Midget driver Kaidon Brown who has driven the perfect season so far but he has a posse of drivers just waiting for him to make one mistake so they can pounce on his lead. The racing is sure to be as hard and fast as it has been all year and with a favorable weather forecast this will be a fantastic day of speedway action.

3 wide action from the Clubman Heavy guys

The racing at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh is scheduled to start at 10am. There is a full canteen facility for all your eating and drinking requirements throughout the day.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2011.

It was a GREAT Day to Celebrate

On Sunday, 18 September, the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club hosted their 7th Annual Celebration Day - a day where the drivers and Club members have the opportunity to celebrate and thank the wonderful voluntary contributions made over many years by dedicated club members.

It was a beautiful spring day and fitting for such an occasion, and the older drivers who were present put on a great display of speedway driving as they battled through three heats and a grueling 35 lap final on the 450mtr track. The Midgets and Rookies ran 20 laps in their feature races.

Many drivers after the race were commenting on how, in a normal sprint race, the track doesn’t change much but over the 35 laps it changed nearly every lap. After the event drivers were more than keen to have extended finals again next year.

First on track this race meeting was the Rookie class, racing in honour of Rod Bright who has been with the Club for over 20 years helping with sponsorship or mentoring junior drivers during that time. Rod was also one of the most successful speedway kart racers and now spends his racing in sprintcars but still finds time to be an important part of the Club.

As has been all year, the girls were on hand to take it up to the boys again. Taylor Rietdyk was able to hold off the field to win Heat 2 and Taylor Coghlan had a great feature race and, in the end, comfortably won the race. However NSW State Champion Luke Sayre, after winning Heats 1 and 3, was able to claim outright points victory for the class. Finishing in 2nd place was visiting driver from Singleton, John Gillespie, who was very consistent claiming two 2nds and two 3rds across the four races. Coming off the back of her great feature race victory, Taylor Coghlan claimed enough points to finish 3rd for the day.

The KT Modified class was next to race and the Heavy and Light classes combined to race and say thanks to two men, Tony Baird and Lloyd Armstrong, who give their time at every race meeting. The help they have given the Club over many years is invaluable as is all the help from volunteers.

The racing in the division, across the day, was first class. Through the heats “Comeback King”, John Watton, had snuck up on the field and was the high points man going into the final. Coming from deep in the pack in two of the heats saw him gain big points even though he had not claimed a heat victory. Going into the 35 lap final, his strategy was easy - it is a long race, settle in, pick up places and take the round win. However motorsport is cruel and after all his good early work he was caught up in a lap 5 incident and recorded a DNF for the final.

In the heats it was David Boyd who saw the chequered flag first. Following a DNF in his first heat, Australian Champion Michael Jordan would go on to win Heats 2 and 3 and record victory in the feature. However when the points were tallied it wasn’t enough for Michael and the day’s placings were 1st David Boyd, 2nd Michael Jordan and 3rd John Watton.

Next up was the Junior class who had the privilege of racing in honour of a great Club man, Gary Bourke. Sadly we lost Gary to illness just over seven years ago but such was the impact he made that his memory is remembered each year at this race meeting.

A slightly smaller field than usual was on hand to race and it was another newly crowned Australian Champion picking up where he left off from his title meeting. Heats 1 and 2 saw Jake Baines take victory from Daniel Sayre, Lindsay Jones and Ayden Elliott who all shared the minor placings. In Heat 3 Lindsay Jones drove a great race to take the win from Ayden Elliott and Daniel Sayre.

Come feature time all the young drivers were looking forward to the challenge of the extended race and, by race end, it was Ayden Elliott who, after starting from grid position 5, took the win from Jordan Binskin with Jake Baines finishing 3rd after starting 8th.

At the end of the day the final points placings for the Junior class was 1st Jake Baines, 2nd Daniel Sayre and 3rd Ayden Elliott.

The Clubman class drivers who turned up raced to thank Shane Orre for all the help she has given over the eight years she and her family have been with the Club. Always helping with whatever is required is very appreciated by all Club members and the Clubman drivers were honoured to be driving for her.

This meeting saw young lady racer, Alana Onley, come of age and her driving all day was first class . Alana won Heats 1 and 2 and was in a very strong position in Heat 3 before a DNF would see her miss out on a perfect score. The minor placings in the heats were taken out by Kyle Caunt, Wayne Baines and cameo driver, Tim Briggs. Tim is the owner of the Lapstone Hotel who helped promote the Australian Titles held earlier in the month and the Club, along with the Coghlan Oval Track Racing Team, combined to repay Tim’s effort by allowing him to race the day.

Heat 3 saw Richard Elliott win and he held off a last corner challenge by Wayne Baines who had come back to race the class after a couple of years of racing KT Modified. In the feature race Wayne Baines was able to take the win from Richard Elliott with a very improved Alana Onley 3rd. The win wasn’t enough to see Baines make the podium and when the points were tallied it was Elliott and Onley tied at the top. Due to Richie’s win in the feature, the final placings were 1st Richard Elliott, 2nd Alana Onley and 3rd Tim Briggs.

The mighty Midgets were the final class to tear up the track and, on this Celebration day, a couple of special results would come from the on-track action.

The start of the day saw Kaidon Brown continue his winning season taking out Heat 1 from his starting position 8. Following Kaidon home were two very improved drivers - Andrew Sayre was 2nd and Liam Walker 3rd. Heat 2 had Jake Donaldson taking the win and he was chased home by the two Liam’s - Walker would be 2nd and Camilleri 3rd.

Having finished 3rd in his first heat, 2nd in his second heat, Liam Walker won his 3rd heat and these results would see him line up for the feature as the high points man. Minor placings in the 3rd heat went to Kaidon Brown in 2nd and Liam Camilleri 3rd. Feature time came around and what a result - starting from position 9 Liam Camilleri would win his first ever feature race in a great drive; chasing him all the way was Liam Walker who started from grid spot 11 to claim third whilst second place was awarded to Andrew Sayre. Once the points were tallied Liam Walker would hold his first ever round win trophy for his 1st place, 2nd was Liam Camilleri and 3rd was Andrew Sayre. The Midget racing was first class all day and a joy to watch and after the presentation there were some very proud parents.

Another feature of the day was the newly named trophy in honour of Scott Darley. The Darley family was very instrumental in the early years of the Club and Scott’s tragic and untimely accident affected a lot of Club members at the time. The committee has decided that the highest points scorer of the Celebration Day meeting will receive the “Scott Darley Achievement of Excellence “ Award. The 2011 winner of the trophy was Midget driver Liam Walker which was fitting given that his father, Wayne, was mates with Scott. He was very proud that Liam won the Award.

The Team Of The Year event was again contested this year. The concept of teaming a junior driver with a senior driver for the meeting was again taken in the spirit of the day and it was great to see the senior drivers mentoring their younger team mates. The 2011 Team Of The Year Award went to the team of senior driver, David Boyd and Midget driver, Andrew Sayre.

Both drivers received a $150 voucher supplied by Sayre Racing and Karting World.

All in all it was another great day for the Club and its members and everyone enjoyed a relaxed fun day of racing.

IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE

This Sunday at the Nepean motorsport complex on Rickards road Castlereagh the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club will be conducting the 7th annual Celebration Day.

A little over seven years ago a couple of the committee of the NSWSKC had an idea of holding a race meeting that celebrated, us as a club and also thanked the people and characters that have shaped or continue to give so much our club over the 21 years it has been running. These people have all played a vital and important part in shaping this club into the family friendly club it is today.

In my seven years as president the inception of this race meeting is one of my proudest achievements. I truly believe this meeting in its short 7 years has become, the titles aside, one of the speedway kart calendars races to win.

In the past we could not attract drivers to a race that didn’t have club championship points attached to it but steadily numbers have increased and last year we had over 70 drivers on hand indicating that the importance and prestige of this race is really being accepted by everyone.

This year our honor role is

Midgets

Club Member / Volunteer

Nicole Jaques

Rookies

Club Member / Sponsor

Rod Bright

Juniors

Past Member

Gary Bourke

Clubman Light

Club Member / Volunteer

Bob Genner

Clubman Heavy

Past Member

Ashley Smith

Kt Light

Club Member / Volunteer

Lloyd Armstrong

Kt Heavy

Club Member / Volunteer

Tony Baird

Again this year we will be running The Team of the Year concept which was started 3 years ago. The idea is that a senior driver is paired with a junior competitor from Midgets, rookies or juniors and their collective points for the day will be added to find The Celebration Day Team of the Year.

It is hoped that during the day the senior driver will mentor and help by offering tips and support to the junior driver to help build some friendships within the club between a couple of families that may not normally spend time together .This worked very well the last 3 years and at feature race time we had a lot of senior drivers cheering on their team mate.

The winners will receive a $150 gift voucher to our sponsors shop Karting World for both the senior and junior drivers donated by Sayre Racing and we would like to thank Jeremy and Stacey Sayre for their generous offer.

This year being added to the Celebration Day for the first time will be the “Scott Darley Achievement of Excellence” award which will be awarded to the highest point scorer of the day.

The format for this years event will be the standard two heats and a feature, however this year the feature racers will be an endurance race with senior drivers doing 40 laps and the children doing 30.

This day will also be our media day for the upcoming Australian Speedway Kart Title and we welcome all those coming to showcase our sport for us.

So for $5 per adult entry why not come out on Sunday and enjoy some great speedway action and then stay back and help us celebrate our honorees as we thank them for the wonderful club we have today.

Wayne Baines

President
NSWSKC

AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles

The weekend of September 3 and 4 saw the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club host the second running of the AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles at the Nepean Motorsport Complex.

The event was held in glorious weather and a big crowd gathered on Sunday to witness some of the best racing seen at the venue. Three heats of all divisions were run on the Saturday with one heat and the feature race being run on the Sunday. During the entire weekend, the racing was fantastic with the track providing the perfect surface from the opening heat to the final chequered flag.

The Grand Marshall for the event was Brian Linigen who not only gave the victors the chequered flag but also presented the winning trophies to the 2011 Australian Champions.

The meeting was a complete success for the Club and Club president, Wayne Baines, stated, “ the committee is overwhelmed with the crowd that has turned up to witness this event and hopefully the people will come back and watch speedway karting again”.

After the lunch break on Sunday, current Club Champion, Nathan Camilleri, proudly carried the Australian Flag in a parade lap whilst the big crowd all stood for the playing of the National Anthem, building the anticipation of the feature races to come - and the drivers didn’t let anyone down. All the feature races were worthy of Australian Title status and provided great speedway action.

First on track was the Rookie class and whilst small in numbers these young drivers drove hard and fast all weekend.

Heats were won by Taylor Coghlan and Luke Sayre, Taylor winning heats 2 and 3 and Luke taking heats 1 and 4. However it was Andrew Beattie who snuck up on the field and took out the feature race.

Heat 1 – 1st Luke Sayre, 2nd Andrew Beattie, 3rd Taylor Coghlan

Heat 2 - 1st Taylor Coghlan, 2nd Taylor Rietdyk, 3rd John Gillespie

Heat 3 – 1st Taylor Coghlan, 2nd Taylor Rietdyk, 3rd John Gillespie

Heat 4 – 1st Luke Sayre, 2nd Andrew Beattie, 3rd John Gillespie

Feature – 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre, 3rd Taylor Coghlan

Next to race was the Junior class and again the racing was first class across the weekend. There were plenty of stories played out in this class during the weekend. One of the favourites going into the weekend was State Champ Daniel Sayre however after fracturing his elbow playing football he was still determined to race and in the end had to succumb to the pain and missed out a place this year. Young lady racer Katelyn Hickey was looking good until her hip popped out on her while in the kart - battling the pain she drove on but it was too much for her.

One of the fast men of the weekend was Jordyn Brazier however, whilst looking good for a pole starting position in the feature, the cruelty of motorsport struck which saw him DNF his final heat and this relegated him to the second row. Jake Baines, who had traded the points lead across the weekend with Jordyn, took the pole. Once the green flagged dropped Jake was never challenged for the lead and went on to become the 2011 Australian Junior Champion.

Heat 1 – 1st Jake Baines, 2nd Ayden Elliott, 3rd Jordan Binskin

Heat 2 – 1st Jordyn Brazier, 2nd Katelyn Hickey, 3rd Daniel Sayre

Heat 3 – 1st Jordyn Brazier, 2nd Jake Baines, 3rd Katelyn Hickey

Heat 4 – 1st Nathan Camilleri, 2nd Lindsay Jones, 3rd Daniel Sayre

Feature – Champion Jake Baines, 2nd Ayden Elliott, 3rd Jordan Binskin

The first of the senior classes to compete was the Clubman Light class; defending Champion David Boyd, after racing Kt Modified all year, made a return to the class. Being in a borrowed kart didn’t help his cause and whilst he tried to come to terms with it was gallant in defeat.

Once all the heats were run and won it was ST Signs and Designs team mates, Jonathon Bright and Sean Mayo, who would start on the front row for the final. At the drop of the flag the two class drivers fell into 1st and 2nd respectively. A midrace yellow flag saw Sean get swamped on the restart and he fell back to 5th. The drivers who took advantage were Jason Woodward and Michael Jordan who jumped into 2nd and 3rd. However, Jonathon was never in trouble and went on to record a comfortable win.

Heat 1 – 1st Daniel Morris, 2nd Jason Woodward, 3rd Kyle Pollock

Heat 2 – 1st Jonathon Bright, 2nd Sean Mayo, 3rd Kyle Pollock

Heat 3 – 1st Jonathon Bright, 2nd Sean Mayo, 3rd Jason Woodward

Heat 4 – 1st Mitch Brien, 2nd Michael Jordan, 3rd Kyle Pollock

Feature – Champion Jonathon Bright, 2nd Jason Woodward, 3rd Michael Jordan

The Clubman Heavy boys were next and the racing right from heat 1 showed all of them were keen to be the Aussie Champion. The defending champion, Tim Baker, seemed to struggle for speed across the weekend. The surprise was Daniel Selmes who, after a DNF in his first heat, came back strong with three 2nd places. The other man on the pace was Les Green and the feature lined up with Les out of 1 and Daniel out of 2. After the race started, the pair would change positions and run to the chequered flag that way. Tim Baker held onto a podium finish coming home 3rd..

Heat 1 – 1st Gary Slarke, 2nd Tim Baker, 3rd Les Green

Heat 2 – 1st Les Green, 2nd Daniel Selmes, 3rd David Cochran

Heat 3 – 1st Les Green, 2nd Daniel Selmes, 3rd Tim Baker

Heat 4 – Richard Elliott, 2nd Daniel Selmes, 3rd Gary Slarke

Feature – Champion Daniel Selmes, 2nd Les Green, 3rd Tim Baker

Kt Modified Light had the biggest field of the titles and defending champion, David Hopping, was quietly confident of backing up his 2009 win. However it was the meeting stand out, Michael Jordan, who would take victory in the most dominate display of the weekend. Michael won all five races of the meeting and left no doubt in anyone’s mind as to who is the rightful KT Light Australian champion. Whilst the class provided spectacular racing all weekend nothing overshadowed Michael’s extraordinary feat in such a quality field.

Heat 1 – 1st Michael Jordan, 2nd Tim Beattie, 3rd Daniel Gow

Heat 2 – 1st Michael Jordan, 2nd David Hopping, 3rd Nathan King

Heat 3 – 1st Michael Jordan, 2nd David Hopping, 3rd Nathan King

Heat 4 – 1st Michael Jordan, 2nd Luke Spinley, 3rd David Boyd

Feature - Champion Michael Jordan, 2nd David Hopping, 3rd Nathan King

The KT Modified Heavy class was the final class to race on the programme. Defending champion, Wayne Baines, lead a stellar field full of quality. A first heat DNF for Baines had his title defence in tatters but after three 3rd place finishes in his remaining heats he was to start the feature from position 3. Cameron Coghlan had a win in his first heat followed by three 2nd place finishes in his remaining heats, making him the highest points qualifier and gave him pole position for the final.

Donald Stevens had two heat wins and placed himself on the front row with Cameron. In the feature, Baines was able to take the lead from Coghlan and then as his son Jake did, went on to lead all 20 laps and was the only person to successfully defend his title.

Heat 1 – 1st Cameron Coghlan, 2nd Donald Stevens, 3rd Joel Rhind

Heat 2 – 1st Donald Stevens, 2nd Cameron Coghlan, 3rd Wayne Baines

Heat 3 – 1st Donald Stevens, 2nd Cameron Coghlan, 3rd Wayne Baines

Heat 4 – 1st Rod Sievwright , 2nd Cameron Coghlan , 3rd Wayne Baines

Feature - Champion Wayne Baines, 2nd Les Green, 3rd Cameron Coghlan

All in all, the meeting was a great success and certainly the highs to come out of the event was Michael Jordan’s dominance in KT Light , double duties men Les Green and Michael Jordan getting onto the podium in two classes and, of course, Jake and Wayne Baines becoming the first Father and Son combination to win Australian Titles .

The committee of the NSWSKC would like to thank the publican of the Lapstone Hotel for the week long promotion that was run at the hotel which no doubt added to the spectator interest over the weekend.

Also a huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers and officials that gave up their time over the weekend.

Last but not least the NSWSKC would like to once again thank WESCRANES for their support of this event and for their continued support throughout 2011.

The 2011 WESCRANES AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles, September 3rd and 4th

The New South Wales Speedway Kart Club are proud to be hosting the 2nd running of the AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles being held this coming Saturday and Sunday at the Nepean Motorsport Complex located on Rickards Road Castlereagh.

The Executive Committee would like to acknowledge and thank local Hawkesbury district business WESCRANES as the naming rights sponsor of this event. Not only are they the primary sponsor for this event but are also supporters of the club throughout 2011.

The AKA Australian Speedway Titles have been building up to this weekend and all drivers entered are eager to get on the track so they can stake their claim in this event.

The meeting is being run over Saturday and Sunday, the 3rd and 4th September.

Saturday will see drivers compete in 3 qualifying events which will give them all important points as they strive to be off pole in the feature event.

Then on Sunday morning drivers will get one last chance to bag more points in their final qualifying heat before lining up for the big one the 2011 Australian Title.

In the fields this year are four defending Champions, In the Clubman Light class David Boyd will be out to retain the converted green plate which the Australian Champions get to display.

This year David has been racing in the KT Pro class, but when asked about why he is competing in the clubman class he stated “its an Australian Title and there was never any thought of not defending my title, however the class has been very competitive this year and Jason Woodward and Dan Morris will be hard to beat with both being in great form in club rounds”.

The Clubman Heavy class has Tim Baker defending his Title. This season Tim has really been the bench mark and holds a very healthy lead in his class championship. When asked about his thoughts Tim’s responded “Gary Slarke has found some speed lately and Joel Rhind is always fast, but I know I have a good kart and a good engine so providing I do what I have done all year so far I should be ok, I guess we will know come Sunday”.

Defending Clubman Light and Heavy Champions David Boyd & Tim Baker, above…

In the KT Modified Light Class, second generation speedway driver and former East Coast Modified Champion David Hopping will be on hand to defend his Australian Title status. Competing also this year in the KT Pro class David hasn’t had the best of seasons but is hoping this meeting will turn his season around. Two of the front runners in this year’s KT Pro class in Michael Jordan and David Boyd will be also racing in the Light Class and David believes “both these guys will be fast but last race meeting Daniel Gow was very quick and slipping under the radar is Nathan Bailey who is always fast. It is going to be a great race and any one of 5 or 6 drivers could win this thing”.

In The KT Modified Heavy class the current NSW State Champion, Wayne Baines, is also the defending Australian Champion of this class. This year Wayne has been racing in the KT Pro class and believes that “racing in the Pro class this year has made me pick my game up, racing against lighter and younger guys. The racing has been first class and fast and having won 2 club rounds and winning the state title against most of the guys that have entered here this weekend I am confident that come Sunday afternoon we will be there striving to get that green plate. The field however is probably one of the most competitive and quality fields seen recently and the racing will be worth watching in this class”.

Defending KT Heavy and Light Champions Wayne Baines & David Hopping

The other class to compete on the program will be the Junior National class and these guys and gals have had full fields all year and this race meeting is no different with 15 karts ready to race. The leaders of the pack this year have been Daniel Sayre and Jordyn Brazier, but young lady racer Katelyn Hickey has been hot on their heals and they better not drop their guard or Katelyn will be showing them all the way to the checkered flag. The field is very open with any number of the top 10 capable of wining on their day. This class will as always provide great speedway action over the weekend.

The Rookie Class is a transitional class where Midget Class racers make there way to Juniors and as such often have a year where there numbers are down. This is the case this year, however the rookies will be competing on the program and it will be the two Taylor’s ( Coghlan & Rietdyk) taking on John Gillespie , Andrew Sayre and Andrew Beattie in a real battle of the sexes. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out with all drivers taking places on the podium at club championship rounds.

Over the weekend the spectators on hand will be treated to some of the greatest speedway action you will see anywhere as drivers attempt to become the Australian Champion for 2011.

Once the racing has finished drivers will receive their trophies from one of speedway’s greats, Brian Linigen who has accepted the position of grand Marshall for the weekend.

Club president Wayne Baines stated “We are extremely honored that Brian accepted our offer to be grand Marshall for this event. The committee wanted to acknowledge and thank Brian for all he has done in speedway and also for what he has done for our club over the years”.

Once presentations are over people are welcome to stay and enjoy the afternoon with members and families.

The racing at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh is scheduled to start at 10am.

There is a full canteen facility for all your eating and drinking requirements throughout the day.

The NSWSKC would like to once again thank WESCRANES for their support of this event and for their continued support throughout 2011.
